i had an old thread in gaming but i figured i'd move it here since it has a similar audience to ogame.
this is a browser based strategy game managed in ticks which occur every 24 minutes.
There are 6 factions. The goal of the game is theoretically to have your faction gain 50% of the population and keep it for like a week.
The research system in Warring Factions is unique in comparison to any game ive seen.
There are several things you can research. There are 4 types of engines about 15 types of ships and there are colony institutions like malls hospitals police stations and other such things as well as resources which are separate from money and must mine i guess you could say.
The research system has 10 categories:
Agriculture
Mining
Processing
Production
Physics
Chemics
Medical
Drives
Weapons
Construction
The way you research is in formulas. You create a ration of scientists and a budget and run a research project. Ratios called Golden Formulas produce the best quality of any given print such as a drive farm mine mall and such. Different combinations create different levels of results. You can even create hybrids like carrier/destroyers and farm/wells. Its lots of fun and can absorb as much time as you want to put in.
You also manage colonies with taxes(wealth and income) and laws(recycling, contraceptives, martial law and such) the laws have specific functions, banning contraceptives in creases population growth.
The main goals are, getting more population, increasing income, researching, exploring galaxies, systems, and planets, creating colony ships to colonize new planets, mining resources for ships and buildings, building a military, fighting, creating sensor nets to detect enemy fleets, diplomacy and colony management.
You can participate in one, multiple, or all of the actions here.
There are also empires within factions that share tech and info. There are types religion which increases pop growth for members based on worshippers, corporations which have interest bearing banks and dont pay fees for money transfer.
The game can absorb as much time as you put into it but its possible to play only 1 or 2 hours a day and still contribute. Game Rounds last up to 6 months or a year depending on how the wars and such go.
Some players explore, some spam colonies, some micromanage colonies, some are mostly researchers creating the all critical superior tech, some fight. Its fairly open ended.
If you play i would appreciate you joining my faction, Genesis, which is nominally in fourth of 6 by population percentage but is mostly short of players.
Tutorials and vet players can teach you any part of the game you want to play. Premium accounts are totally unnecessary to play the game, benefits are mostly scripts for running multiple copies of research and ship navroute planning.
Anyone who plays ogame and similar games would be a good fit here.
